ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis cake maker has won the new Food Network competitive baking show "Candy Land" and has earned the $25,000 grand prize!
Deva Williamson, the owner of Big Laugh Kitchen was unveiled as the winner after the show's final episode on Sunday night.
Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth hosted the show where teams competed through the edible regions of Candy Land, challenging them to create eye-popping and heavenly confectionery showpieces as they seek out different flavors and unique ingredients to use every step of the way.
Williamson and her team defeated the four other groups in the six-episode inaugural competition.
She tells FeastMagazine that she was inspired to become a baker when she was living in a homeless shelter and someone brought in a cake for a celebration.
"It just really made me feel special, because no one had done that for me before, and I liked the feeling that I had," she told FeastMagazine. "I wanted to be able to give that to other people. So I started a tradition of having a cake on Christmas, because that's when we got that cake."
