Water Commissioner Curt Skouby wants to raise rates in two phases -- once this summer, and again next winter. "Ideally we'll get a 20% rate increase, by July 1st it would go into effect, and then a second one January 1st, 2024. Those are 20% each."
Skouby told the aldermanic budget committee that the water department hasn't raised rates for 13 years, and said they're "in the hole," because of rising costs for manpower and materials.
The final decision will be up to the board of aldermen, because the city water department is not regulated by the state public service commission.
