As St. Louisans and Americans all across the country have seen record-breaking gas prices, an expert says there might

Patrick DeHaan is the head of petroleum analysis with Gas Buddy. He said people might start to see some relief at the gas pump -- if only briefly.

"At least for now, gas prices over the last week have declined a couple of cents in St. Louis, and the national average is also down about five cents a gallon. And that could continue for a few days," DeHaan said on Total Information AM. "But oil prices are up today about $2 a barrel, the wholesale price of gasoline also up ten cents a gallon. So that may eventually end the run of lower gas prices, potentially, at some point in the next week or so."

DeHaan said the reduction in prices doesn't have to do with demand easing -- in fact, inventories have been declining.

"Americans still taking to the road at a brisk pace. But we have seen some better numbers -- now, certainly not ideal," he said.
