St. Louis County Police Officer placed on administrative leave after involvement in Kirkwood shots-fired incident

ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- A St. Louis County Police Officer has been placed on administrative leave after being involved in a shots fired incident at a Kirkwood Middle School Sunday afternoon.

The officer, identified as Matthew McCulloch, is facing five counts of armed criminal action, four counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count each of unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree terrorist threat.

McCulloch faces charges facing from a incident in which shots were fired into the air in the middle of a trunk-or-treat event outside at North Kirkwood Middle School Sunday afternoon.

According to Kirkwood Police Department, McCulloch, who was attending the event, was causing a disturbance. McCulloch then allegedly displayed a handgun and fired multiple shots into the air, after being confronted by other attendees regarding their behavior.

McCulloch was tackled by attendees and taken into custody by officers. No one was hurt from the incident.

McCulloch was placed on administrative leave by St. Louis County Police Department Monday. He has been on the Department since December 2017.

St. Louis County Police released the following statement:

"We were disappointed to learn that the actions of one of our officers caused a disturbance in the City of Kirkwood on Sunday." St. Louis County Police Department said in a statement Monday afternoon, "In a profession where we are called to keep the peace, this display of disregard for safety is concerning. We are very grateful that no one was hurt.

Per Department policy, at this time, the officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation conducted by our Bureau of Professional Standards."
