UPDATE 9:30 PM - Superintendent of the Jennings School district Dr. Paula Knight has issued a statement:

Dear JSD Families & Community

At approximately 3:30 p.m. today there was a shooting at a home on Hord Avenue (not at our Jennings Junior High school as incorrectly reported by some in the media). This unfortunate incident did involve a 14 year old junior high school student, who we lost in an environment of unnecessary violence in our nation. Please keep our families and community in your prayers during these challenging time.

Even though our school hours had ended at 3:00 p.m. and the incident had occurred off campus, we will be on-site tomorrow at the junior high with members of the crisis team to support those students, staff and families.

More information will be provided at a later time; if necessary and please check also with the Jennings Police department on this sad and painful incident off campus.

Again, please keep all students, staff and the families in the Jennings School District in prayer. And we ask that the media at this time to be considerate of our students, families, staff and board members' privacy. Your cooperation is appreciated and needed.

We have reached out to the family to offer our support during this tragic time.
