ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County says it's ready to start taking applications for the long-awaited senior property tax freeze.
Beginning Tuesday, St. Louis County seniors can start applying for a property tax freeze.
County Revenue Director Tony Smee tells KMOX the only way to apply is through an online portal.
"It's not a paper application," said Smee. "We haven't released any sort of paper forms. So folks can't mail in or simply drop off their information."
Smee says the department will not be accepting mail-in or paper documents as part of the application process.
Smee, says if residents are unable to complete the application online from home they can get help from county staff to at one of four government center locations.
Here a list of those locations, which will be opened from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays.
1. Clayton Administration Building - 41 South Central Ave. Clayton, MO 63105
2. Northwest Crossing - 715 Northwest Plaza Dr. St. Ann, MO 63074
3. South County - 4546 Lemay Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO 63129
4. West County - 74 Clarkson Wilson Center, Chesterfield, MO 63017
Smee tells KMOX that there's no rush as the deadline to apply for the 2024 freeze is June 30, 2025.
"We got a full nine months for them to apply," said Smee. "We expect there is going to be a large number of folks that want to apply on the first day, but they really have nine months to do it."
Residents must prove they are 62 or older and show ownership of a property.
