ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two people were transported urgently to the hospital after firefighters rescued an entrapped person inside a house fire in south St. Louis Friday morning.

The St. Louis Fire Department says an elderly woman made the 911 call and told the dispatcher she was trapped inside her burning two-story home on Michigan Avenue in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. The dispatcher stayed with her on the phone "providing life saving instructions and shared critical information" until she was rescued, Capt. Garon Mosby said.

The woman pulled out through the window of the bathroom she was trapped in, reports Fox 2. She was directed by the dispatcher to stuff towels at the bottom of the door to prevent smoke from coming inside and to put another towel over her face to help breath.

Mosby reports a dog was also rescued from the home by multiple firefighters.

Two people were transported "urgently" to the hospital from the scene, firefighters say.
