MEHLVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) - A husband and wife were found dead in their bed and police say it appears both died of COVID-19.

Sources tell KMOX News the tragic discovery was made by an 11-year-old child of the couple.

Police say the man and woman – both in their 40s – died last Thursday at their home in the 3500 block of Glen Bay Drive.

A police statement says the pair had both tested positive for COVID, were under quarantine and had been experiencing symptoms, according to the family.

"Officers observed no sign of foul play in the residence," the statement says. "We have no reason to believe their deaths were caused by anything other than COVID-19 at this time."

Police had no information on whether the couple had any pre-existing conditions.

The St Louis County Medical Examiner says no autopsy was performed in the case, but all indications point to COVID-19 as the cause of death.
