ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A Topgolf location within the city of St. Louis appears to be coming to fruition with a new report of the company close to acquiring some land in Midtown.

The St. Louis Business Journal reports that a 15-acre site at the northwest corner of South Compton and Chouteau Avenues is the targeted area. KMOX reported in June that there were FAA applications at that same spot for dozens of the typical giant poles seen at Topgolf locations around the country. When the coordinates of the 33 applications were assembled on a map they made the same exact shape as the Chesterfield Topgolf.

An urban location of Topgolf would be very rare. Its first location within a large city was the Atlanta site in 2015, which the company said it was "very special" at the time as the "first-ever truly urban location."

It may also be a huge win for St. Louis. It was estimated that a new Topgolf facility and some restaurants in Omaha could generate $1 million in sales tax annually, according to KETV.com.

Topgolf has more than 70 locations in five countries across the globe. But only a select few US towns – such as Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix — have multiple locations in the area.

A deal for Topgolf to acquire the land in Midtown could be done in October, according to the report. The company has not confirmed reports of a new St. Louis location
