ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (KMOX) - A suspected burglar described as an adult white male was shot and killed by a St. Louis police officer around 6 AM Sunday.

Two officers responded to a storage facility on Gravois in the Bevo neighborhood of south St. Louis, and heard what sounded like grinding, or some type of power tools being used. The officers searched the building and one confronted two men.

The officer says one charged at him with a screwdriver, the other ran off.

Chief John Hayden addressed the media at the scene, saying the officer who fired the shots is 39-years-old and has been with the department almost 13 years. As a police shooting, the Force Investigative Unit is conducting the investigation into the officer's actions.

He said the facility, "Does have a history of being burglarized."

No identities of any involved have yet to be released by police.
