ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For the second straight day, St. Louis Public Schools has cancelled most of the district's after school activities due to the ongoing walkout by bus drivers employed by the Missouri Central Bus Company.

On Monday, bus drivers employed by the Missouri Central Bus Company walked out, leaving about a fourth of the district's routes uncovered and after school activities canceled. The walkout is a protest stemming from an incident after noose found at a black mechanic's work station last week.

St. Louis Public Schools released an update Tuesday regarding the situation, with the district saying "there has been minimal progress" on the situation being resolved at the moment and that 56 bus routes will remain uncovered Tuesday.

Despite the walkouts, after-care programs will remain open on a normal schedule, while decisions regarding athletics will be made on a school-by-school basis. Parents are advised to contact their school’s athletic director with questions about sports.

Missouri Central says they have notified its employees that they have hired a third-party investigator to examine the troubling allegations and hope for a swift resolution.
