ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Residents of a street in the north St. Louis County suburb of Wellston are wondering when officials will clean up the unsightly, foul mounds of trash accumulating in their neighborhood.
Lulu Avenue — just west of Normandy High School and east of the Normandie Golf Course on St. Charles Rock Road — is being targeted by vandals dumping toilets, cabinets, mattresses, cushions, clothing, plastic bottles, yard waste, cardboard, tires and bags full of garbage into vacant lots and along the road. Nearby North Market Street is also plagued by rising mounds of refuse.
Neighbors told me children are reluctant to play outside for health reasons. The dumping has attracted rats, mice, owls, possum, raccoons, deer, owls and hawks. One woman said bugs she “had never seen before” have accompanied the trash.
Along Lulu Avenue, two signs warn violators, “No Dumping: This property is under video surveillance by the North County Police Cooperative.”
