ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two Mid-Town projects are set to link the North and South side for a pedestrian-driven future in St. Louis.
The Great River Brickline Greenway joint project may have you wondering what it would really look like to live in a pedestrian-centered region.
The project creates a raised pedestrian pathway above the E-B lanes of I-64/40 and below the westbound lanes to provide a walkable route.
"Really what it be doing is it's linking the southside and the northside of these highways that really bisect the heart of the region and make it that it's pedestrian friendly," said Cat Neville, Explore St. Louis VP of Communications on Total Information A.M. Thursday.
Neville says the project will not only just be walkways.
"They are going to be working in benches, public art and water fountains," said Neville. "It won't be just a path or a sidewalk, it's really meant to be a network of trails and for many people like people on strollers, people on foot, etc."
Neville says this $245 million project spanning over 10 years is very expansive and will impacts the entire region.
"To be able to create a connected society, you can't have in their little car pods driving on these highways," said Neville. "It will make it where you enjoy where you live more."
