VALLEY PARK (KMOX) -- The U.S. Geological Survey confirms an earthquake, currently measured to be a magnitude 2.8, hit at 5:30 p.m. Friday near the former Peerless Park, south of Ballwin, in west St. Louis County.
This is a small earthquake, but listeners have been calling the KMOX newsroom and studio lines telling us they felt the rumble.
"I felt this thing and I just knew it was an earthquake because of the way it came through the house," says listener Mary from Sunset Hills. "It took a couple seconds, windows rattled a little bit, and then it was done."
Ken from Ellisville called to say it was "pretty much just a rumble. You could kind of hear it. The house shook. It was just a few seconds around 5:30."
Many people left their homes and went out to their front yards afterwards.
We've got no reports of damage or injuries.
Initially, USGS measured it as a magnitude 2.5 before revising it up to 2.8.
St. Louis County Emergency Management says its 911 dispatch center is receiving a high number of calls. They're asking people to only call 911 for emergencies related to injuries and damage.
The non-emergency number to call is 636-529-8210.
