ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The cheering section at Saturday's St. Louis CITY SC home opener is hoping for a win off the field.

The St. Louligans will be cheering and waving their banners Saturday for CITY SC against the Colorado Rapids at Energizer Park, but the future of their name remains in limbo.

The group is still fighting with Maryland Heights-based Beck Flavors over the name and is opposing the company's attempt to trademark the 'Louligan' name for alcoholic and coffee-based beverages.

The Federal Trademark Trial and Appeals Board has given the group a 90-day extension, until April 30th.

The St. Louligans have used the name since 2010 and incorporated as a non-profit in 2019.

Attorneys for the group say they do plan to apply soon to U.S. Trademark and Patent Office to register their name.

They did trademark their skull-and-crossbones logo several years ago after other people began using it on merchandise, but according to the St. Louis Business Kournal, the group decided not to trademark the name in order to save money.

The Louligans generate money for charitable giving and were confident a Missouri law would offer protections.
