On Thursday, St. Mary's announced its new name and game plan for staying open in the coming years.
The school started as Southside Catholic 91 years ago. Now, it'll be called St. Mary's Southside Catholic. The school plans to raise $10 million thanks in part to support from its new spiritual support system, the Marianists, a congregation of brothers and priests.
Local leaders say the spirit of the Dutchtown neighborhood will be lifted with the announcement that the school plans to stick around. St. Mary's Southside Catholic has plans to announce more initiatives regarding Dutchtown in the coming weeks.
