ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - He said Saturday afternoon's weather was a bit tricky, with it almost being too slow of a wind speed, but a pilot from St. Peters was the winner of the 51st annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race.

Kurt Vitense dropped his beanbag closest to the "X" Saturday afternoon to claim bragging rights, "This is about providing a great show for the public. It's about being safe. And it's about having fun. We're all competitive. If we can find the right wind current to get us to the target then great, we'll throw the bag out there and see how close we can get."

Vitense came within 9 feet 5 inches in the "Raising Cane's" balloon.

Second place went to Walt Rudy in the "STL Made" balloon. He got within 19 feet 2 inches.

Aaron Gebhart took third in the "Purina" sponsored entry, with a mark of 32 feet 8 inches.
