ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A recent leaded email from Stan Kroenke's lawyers to the NFL and all its owners stated that today will be the last chance they have to settle this lawsuit with St. Louis. If they don't, a potentially damaging public trial will happen in January.

A mediation session is set for Tuesday as the plaintiffs (St. Louis, St. Louis County, and the St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority) and the defendants (NFL and all its owners, including and especially Kroenke) will each meet in separate board rooms. A mediator will then work back and forth to deliver offers and counter offers as they try to cut a deal.

Kroenke believes he can negotiate a settlement between $500 million and $750 million. St. Louis is pushing for up to $2 billion in damages if it goes to trial.

The mediation process can take more than one day.

Kroenke has been causing some division among NFL owners as he may not be holding up his end of the bargain. The $10 billion man signed an indemnification agreement with the NFL and all its owners when he convinced them of relocating the Rams to Los Angeles. The deal meant that he would pay for essentially all legal fees, settlement or punitive damages if anyone was sued over the move. But now that the bills are pilling up, he says he doesn't have to pay.

Lawyers for the League and Rams have gone all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States in attempt to have the case thrown out, but has lost at seemingly every turn. A separate suit was recently settled, giving $24 million in refunds to former St. Louis Rams personal seat license holders. St. Louis was also the winner in another lawsuit, that allows fans who bought tickets and merchandise since 2010 to be eligible for partial refunds.

A trial is set to begin on Jan. 10 in a St. Louis court room if no settlement is reached.
