ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Should the St. Louis County Council have the power to remove the elected County Executive?
The St. Louis County Council is exploring new ways to deal with the St. Louis County Executive Office, including the ability to remove Dr. Sam Page from office.
St. Louis County Councilman Dennis Hancock, who was on 'Total Information A.M.' Tuesday morning says he hasn't seen the exact legislation yet, but says there needs to be accountability.
"What I think we are really looking to do is to bring some accountability back to county government," said Hancock. "I don't know if this is necessarily aimed at the county executive as it is at the executive's staff."
Hancock says the staff refused to give the county council updates on the 2025 budget as an example.
"As it's been well publicized, we got serious budget issues to deal with," said Hancock. "And the county council have the responsibility to manage through that, but we need the input of the people who are going to be impacted by whatever decisions we make."
"When that didn't happen, I think it got a lot of people's attention."
Hancock he wants the county executive to hear the council's concerns and not act with impunity.
