
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis County Police Officer was involved in a shooting in the Dutchtown and Mount Pleasant neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
According to St. Louis County Police Sgt. Tracy Panus, at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, county officers with the county's Bureau of Intelligence and members of the special response unit were in the 4300 block of Alaska Avenue to conduct surveillance on a potential homicide suspect.
At around 1:45 p.m., St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were notified of shots fired after County officer approached a suspect who was carrying a handgun with a drum magazine.
Shots were exchanged between the suspect and officers, with the suspect fleeing to the 4300 block of Alaska, with the suspect being struck there.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. The suspect was in critical, but stable condition.
The department says no officers or pedestrians were shot or injured.
There was heavy police presence in South City at the moment with multiple crime scenes throughout the area are taped off.
Panus tells reporters that the investigation has been handed over to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
