ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County residents have been receiving scam calls threatening arrests they fail to pay a fine for missing jury duty.

According to St. Louis County Circuit Courts, how the scam works is a resident gets a call on their home, at work or on cell phone that they missed jury duty and they need to pay a fine right away (usually with a pre-paid debit card)

If the resident refuses to pay the fine, they threaten to have you arrested.

The Circuit Courts says the courts, law enforcement and other government agencies do not make phone calls about missing jury service and warrants and will never ask for payment or financial information over the phone.

The Circuits Courts say a legitimate jury summons from St. Louis County Courts would come in the mail.

If St. Louis County residents receive such phone calls, residents are asked to please contact local law enforcement.

If residents are unsure if a jury summons is valid, they can call the Jury office at 314-615-2669.
