ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Earlier this year, KMOX introduced you to a St. Louis City resident who has a grand vision to improve the walkability of Clark Avenue from Union Station, past Enterprise Center and the Cupples Station-area down to Busch Stadium.

Denis Beganovic is a St. Louis City resident and believes that because Clark connects Ballpark Village, Enterprise Center, Union Station and other popular site, it should be more presentable.

Back in February 2024, Beganovic said he reached out to city officials and local businesses, with officials like Alderman Rasheen Aldridge and Alderwoman Cara Spencer seemingly excited and in favor of Beganovic's work. In the month since, he's given several "walking tours" to elected officials to pitch his idea.

Beganovic, who has a background with MoDOT and the city's Street's Department, says he's met with a number of city officials already.

"Everyone I talked to has been welcoming and opened and excited about the project," said Begnovic on Total Information A.M. Tuesday. "I recently spoke to someone in the Mayor's Office who wants to learn more and get more involved."

Beganovic also says alongside city officials, he's talked to Ameren about lighting, Forestry about plantings, the Streets Department about repaving, as he wants to make Clark Avenue brighter, safer and more walkable.

"All positive steps so far, everybody's been supportive and it's moving forward," said Beganovic.

Beganovic says that his goal of trying to get Clark Avenue more presentable in a 12-18 month timeline still looks like it's on a good pace for that happen.

"Paving season usually starts when weather is consistently above 70 degrees Fahrenheit so we're coming up there, but the city already have projects that have already been planned and getting ready to be executed, so we may not be in this year's paving season, but I think we should be ready to go next year" said Beganovic.
