ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There's a new opportunity for an artist to become part of a historic neighborhood in St. Louis. Volpi Foods in The Hill wants someone to paint a new mural on their wall and they'll pay $6,000 for it.
the St. Louis-based, 4th-generation family-owned and operated producer of specialty cured meats announced they're now accepting submissions to bring a white stone wall at its flagship storefront to life. Artists should send mural concept submissions to muralcontest@volpifoods.com by Friday, July 30 to be considered.
The store says people of all ages are encouraged to apply and they're looking for something that will "portray the rich historic feel of The Italian Hill district, landmarks, events, etc as appropriate, and hopefully be a draw to visitors to document their Hill experience on social media." Check out all the guidelines and judging criteria, here.
The winning artist will be paid $6,000 for their work and be honored at a public unveiling this fall. The second and third place submissions will be awarded an in-kind payment and honored at the unveiling. There will first be 10 finalists selected by the store, then a public vote starting Aug. 9 will narrow it to a top-5.
The winners will be announced on August 30.
“In 1899, my great uncle John Volpi arrived in St. Louis from Milan, Italy, bringing with him little more than a craft and an idea – an idea to bring the centuries-old-tradition of dry-curing meats across the ocean to the American Midwest,” says Volpi Foods CEO Lorenza Pasetti. “We hope this mural will evoke the vibrant heritage of The Hill community.”
