SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A number of St. Louis Public Schools are not going to see buses pulling up to begin the school year.
Students at 6 high schools and 2 elementary schools will have to find their own transportation as St. Louis Public Schools will provide them no bus service to begin the semester. District spokesman George Sells says newly-hired drivers are being trained, and the inconvenience should only last a matter of weeks. "We were up against the clock trying to get enough drivers to cover the entire district and just didn't make it quite frankly."
Familes at the 8 schools are being offered a $75 gas card each week if they take their own kids to school. High schoolers have the option of getting Metro passes instead.
