(KMOX) - The dream of a successful deer hunt came true for 10 Missouri hunters who have limited mobility this weekend. It happened thanks to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Missouri Disabled Sportsmen's annual event.

The mobility impaired deer hunt was held over the weekend and it saw 10 hunters harvested 12 deer with the assistance of volunteers, staff, and equipment. The organization have a lot of help in pulling off the annual event.

According to Missouri Disabled Sportsmen, thousands of acres of privately-owned land was donated for their use. They say the 12 antlerless deer was a new hunt record.
"The amount of laughter, smiling, telling hunting lies, and all around fun that was had is unmeasurable!" they said in a Facebook post. "We owe a huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers, mentors, land owners, and financial supporters that make this event possible each year. It would not happen without their support and dedication to our mission."
Over the last couple weeks, deer hunters in Missouri harvested 14,896 deer during the antlerless portion of the firearms deer season, according to MDC. Last year’s antlerless-portion harvest total was 15,620.
