ST. LOUIS - A suspect is injured during a officer-involved shooting with St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in the 5500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive Thursday afternoon.
According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Sack, a license reader registered a stolen car, then when officers attempted to pursue the vehicle, a car chase ensued.
The chase was heading eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, when the suspect's car veered into the left lane and colliding with another vehicle.
There were two occupants in the allegedly stolen car, with one of the occupants running toward officers while flourishing a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine, according to Sack.
The suspect was struck in the leg by one gunshot fired by a one officer.
The suspect was immediately administered care by officers, and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
No officers were injured.
The incident took place 100 yards away from the Friendly Temple Church. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones held a roundtable about gun violence at the church a little more than two weeks ago.
