The days of Sweetie Pie's have come to an end, as the St. Louis institution has closed its doors for the last time.
Miss Robbie Montgomery explained to KMOX why the restaurant's days are over.
"The veterans, they're expanding, and they need the space. So I either gotta sell or go into eminent domain. So we worked out a deal," she said. "But you got to have a place for our veterans. They've served us and without them, we would not be possible. So we just say, 'Well, let them have it.'"
She said everyone has been hoping that they'll reopen in a new location, but right now, she needs some time off. She added that the goodbye is bittersweet.
"I've been doing this 30 years, St. Louis has supported us. My family has helped me and my friends and everybody," she said. "And it went further than I could have ever imagined. I just wanted a little soul food restaurant ended up having about 20 of them. So God is good. And everything's worked out."
