Captain the Clydesdale is the newest member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
At almost 5-years-old, Captain stands 18.5 hands tall at 6-foot-2 and is the largest of the four horses in the SLMPD's Mounted Patrol Unit.
Evita Caldwell is a Public Information Officer with the SLMPD. She says Captain is the first Clydesdale in the history of the Patrol Unit, which was started in 1867 and re-established in 1970.
Today, Caldwel says Mounted Patrol Officers provide "both a highly visible public safety presence and a unique opportunity for community engagement."
