Tim Lohmar still faces no formal charges — but are political repercussions possible?

After St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar was arrested last weekend on suspicion of drinking and driving, many people wonder if there will be an impact on his political prospects.

Lindenwood University political science professor Don Heidenreich said he thinks it's unlikely.

"Politicians having a DUI, folks go, 'Well, if he learns from it, he only did it one time...' Its impact by itself I think is small," Heidenreich said.

Political author David Sonius has a more existential view of the situation.

"We have, I think, gone past the point of wondering how something like a DUI — or whatever it might be — might affect someone's political career, and have moved onto the question, does anything affect anyone's political career anymore? Where's that line?"

Lohmar says he's "innocent of any wrongdoing" and "will respect the legal process."

KMOX's Kevin Killeen talked to some St. Charles County residents who say Lohmar deserves the benefit of the doubt, and that he's innocent until proven guilty. But others say he should step down, saying it's "hypocritical" as a prosecutor who is supposed to go after drunk drivers to be accused of drunk driving himself.

There is still no indication of any formal charges against the prosecutor.
