ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones is attempting to link her top opponent to MAGA.
In a social media post and email to supporters, Mayor Jones is claiming a website with videos for Bob Onder and Donald Trump is the same website as Alderwoman Cara Spencer's Super PAC.
"It's not fake, we pulled up her website and those were the videos that were there." said Mayor Jones.
However, KMOX has obtained a email correspondence dating back to January, showing a mailer sent to Spencer supporters directing donors to a different website for her Political Action committee.
In addition, a closer look at the fake webpage, it appears barebones and doesn't name the PAC correctly. It also doesn't properly capitalize PAC, adding to its questionable legitimacy. The fake website has since been taken down.
Alderwoman Spencer, who has been seen as Mayor Jones' toughest competitor in the Mayoral race, responds to Mayor Jones' allegedly false accusation.
"It's obvious to most observers that this is fabricated," said Spencer on the phone to KMOX. "It's so disheartening. Campaigns should be based on facts and records."
Spencer asked Mayor Jones in a statement last night to take down the false comments. She tells KMOX she is considering all options when asked if she was considering filing an ethics complaint.
KMOX received the email after speaking with Jones this morning and has reached out to her campaign to see if she wishes to comment further.
