ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Washington University Researchers will be getting a bit more funding to help with their research when it comes to pancreatic cancer.
Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine have received a grant from the National Cancer Institute that will provide about $11 million to research programs for the development of new therapies for pancreatic ductal andeno-carcinoma -- the deadliest form of pancreatic cancer.
The prestigious SCOPE grant will provide $10.9 million over the next five years to Washington University School of Medicine -- to allow researchers to develop new therapies for pancreatic ductal andeno-carcinoma.
The funding will support three major research projects -- including one that will investigate ways to make the cancer respond to vaccines that target specific antigens on the tumor.
Fewer than ten percent of patients with this form of cancer survive longer than five years after diagnosis.
Wash U researchers tell KMOX they hope they can improve the outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer.
