ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Police have released details of an incident where people jumped on top of a cop car in downtown St. Louis. Videos posted of the wild scene early Sunday morning have gone viral.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says an officer was inside that vehicle in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue around 2:30 a.m. There was a large party in an apartment building in the area and police say they received 13 calls about it.

Officers responded to disband the party, then as more than 100 people flooded the street a "mob jumped onto the police car," police say. A city-wide "Officer in Need of Aid" call was sent out and a large police presence then flooded the area.

Police shared body camera footage from the office inside the vehicle:

"The officer was inside the vehicle at the time, and as you can see in the video, there are multiple individuals kicking and stomping on the police car. At one point, an individual was able to open the passenger-side door of the police vehicle," police say.

Police say shots were fired in the area shortly after this incident.

No one was injured in the incident, police say. They shared a photo of the "substantial" damage to the car.

Police are now asking for help to identify the people in this video and others posted to social media.
