ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The recent headlines about the shuttering of Fontbonne University sent many students in the area scrambling, looking for places to continue their education past the current and next school year.
One of the local institutions that has stepped-up is Webster University, which has been named a "teach out institution" for current Fontbonne students.
"As a "teach out institution" it's a little easier than a transfer," said Lisa Blazer Webster University VP of Enrollment Services. "A student can transfer to any institution, while as a "teach out institution" we make it a little more seamless, easier for students with their credits they have completed will go to their degree and there won't be an extension of completing it."
A big component of the process with the financials with Fontbonne University being $6,000 less than Webster's University after financial aid, Blazer says students who come from Fontbonne to Webster won't have to pay more than what they did at Fontbonne.
"(Finances) is one of the biggest decisions they have to make is paying for their schools," said Blazer. "At the very least, we are offering Fontbonne Students don't have to pay any more than what they are paying currently at Fontbonne. Hopefully we can offer them a better financial aid package to help them through that process."
Blazer says Webster University was already considered a "teach out instiution" before Fontbonne made the decision to close it doors after the 2025 summer term.
"We were already working with Fontbonne when they decided to close some of their programs, so we already considered a "teach out" institution during that time," said Blazer. "While we don't have all major the university provides, a lot of specific majors to match what Fontbonne has....so we are working with them on those very specific programs to make sure students can transfer in easily as possible."
