ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Wentzville UAW workers have voted against the tentative agreement between UAW and General Motors Wednesday.

According to UAW voting tracker, about 54 percent workers voted against the tentative agreement, with 1,515 UAW members in Wentzville voting ‘no;’ with 1,274 voting in favor of the agreement.

UAW Local 2250 President Katie Deathridge tells KMOX News she has never seen union members turn down a contract like this.

"We have not voted down on a contract as whole in my career here over 20-years," said Deathridge. "This will be a first, so we'll see what happens."

However she isn't surprised by the result, believing that some workers think a better deal could come.

"Our members had different opinions on this contract and different ideas of how potentially can we get more if we turn it down?" said Deathridge.

Wentzville isn't the only facility to turn down the agreement. According to the Associated Press, while voting is too close to call, but GM assembly plants in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lansing Delta Township, Michigan, and a powertrain plant in Toledo, Ohio, voted against the agreement while the GM plant in Arlington, Texas voted overwhelmingly in support of it.

The tentative deal that would last four years and eight months and it would raise general wages by 25% for top assembly plant workers along with adding the cost of living adjustments that would bring their pay increases to over 30% by the time the contracts end on April 30, 2028.
