After yet another year of trying to push a sports betting bill through the Missouri legislature, the odds of passing the measure are fading. The Missouri House passed a measure legalizing sports betting 118-35, but as the Senate debates the issue, its success is looking less and less likely.
State Senator Denny Hoskins, a Republican representing areas near Kansas City, tells KMOX that there are multiple bills in the legislature hoping to legalize sports betting, but legislators are debating amendments, and casinos are putting in their two cents, too.
Other things up for debate, Hoskins said, are things like fees, income tax rates for casinos, video lottery terminals, the problem of gambling addictions — and for some Republicans, it’s the issue of expanding gambling in general in Missouri that they take issue with.
