ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Phase two of the winter storm is hitting the St. Louis region. Winds are combining with the snow to create even more difficult conditions on roads.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says snowfall will continue to be heavy at times throughout Thursday morning, but should taper off into lighter snow and flurries into the afternoon.
DeVore expects another 3 - 6 inches will fall by day's end.
Low temperatures and wind will create treacherous conditions on the roads. Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Dallas Thompson tells KMOX's Brian Kelly, "It's a real fine powdery snow. Dry snow. The wind is blowing the snow around so bad, once the plow trucks go by it only takes just a few minutes for the wind to start blowing that snow back so its hard to tell what's been plowed."
IDOT District 8 Operating Engineer Joe Monroe says cold and wind are making it a challenge to keep roads clear. He says chemicals aren't the best option in these conditions. Some MetroLink routes have been impacted by ice on the overhead lines.
