ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - One woman with St. Louis ties was on the American Airlines flight that crashed into the Potomac River, according to her family.
John Burroughs High School alum Hamaad Raza told CBS News that his wife was on that plane.
"I'm just praying someone is pulling her out of the river right now as we speak," said Raza to CBS. "That's all I can pray for, praying to god."
Before the crash, Raza told CBS News his wife texted him that they were going to land in about 20 minutes.
Raza is the nephew of Asim Raza - a board member of the Saint Louis Civic Pride Foundation and CLO for a local company.
"Hamaad is my nephew. Please pray for him and his wife. Our family is devastated." Asim Raza wrote on personal X, formerly known as Twitter account.
In a post on X, Hamaad Raza's father, Hashim Raza, says they 'are going to DC to be with him'.
"Hug your family. We are devastated. Our Faith in God is unshakable." Hashim Raza wrote in a X post.
The incident involved American Airlines Flight 5342, with 60 passengers and four crew members onboard. The plane was traveling to D.C. from Wichita, Kansas, where several of the passengers were competing in the US Figure Skating Championships.
The plane collided with an Army helicopter while approaching Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, D.C., sending the two aircraft plummeting into the Potomac River Wednesday night.
The Army helicopter was carrying three soldiers at the time of the collision.
Missouri U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley says he and his wife Erin join so many others in prayer for the families who lost loved ones Wednesday night in the air collision over the Potomac River.
Hawley's office has set up a hotline where Missourians who had a family member onboard flight 5342 can get the latest information from authorities. (202-731-1858)
