KANSAS CITY – Two Independence, MO police officers were shot this afternoon at a residence in the rural eastern side of the city, according to the department. One officer has died, the other taken to a nearby hospital.
Full details have not yet emerged, but it's understood that a process serving of some type was taking place at the house, according to an IPD spokesperson.
One suspect is in custody.
The house is near the intersection of East Bundschu Rd. and N. Elsea Smith Rd. The neighborhood is north of the Lake City Ammunition Plant and near 24 Highway and Twyman Rd.
Ft. Osage High School is nearly three miles from the scene, it was placed on lockdown for a short time as a precaution.
