At least four people have been killed, and six others hospitalized after a gunman opened fire at a biker bar in Trabuco Canyon on Wednesday evening.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department shared that the gunman was one of those killed at Cook’s Corner, located off Santiago Canyon Road.
Authorities first received calls about the shooting at 7:04 p.m. and arrived at the bar two minutes later. At 7:08 p.m., deputies engaged the gunman, and he was fatally shot, the department shared.
The gunman was identified as John Snowling, a former Ventura County Police Department sergeant, O.C. District Attorney Todd Spitzer told KNX News' Margaret Carrero.
Spitzer added that Snowling was looking for a woman who was either his spouse or former spouse.
"He was a known frequenter of Cook's Corner," Spitzer said.
One man told KCAL News that he spoke with a woman who encountered the gunman and said, “Please don’t shoot me. I’m 5 months pregnant,” to which the gunman allegedly told her to “get out of here,” allowing her to leave safely.
One witness spoke with the media outlet, sharing that he and a cook at the bar barricaded themselves in the kitchen, waiting until it was safe to come out.
Doctors at Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo are currently treating two people in critical condition, while four remain in stable condition.
Local law enforcement is continuing its investigation into the shooting in coordination with the FBI.
