Baby shot in North Carolina home

An infant girl and two men were shot and killed Tuesday in Fayetteville, N.C., according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Authorities said that the baby was transported to a hospital, where she died of injuries she sustained during the shooting at approximately 8:28 p.m. along the 1100 block of Bunce Road. Police said she was struck by gunfire.

Firearms are the leading cause of child death in the U.S., according to the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data cited by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Additionally, 26-year-old Terrance Jaiquann Melvin and 33-year-old Johnathan Alexander McMillian died from their injuries. Both were identified as Black males by police. While Melvin’s addressed is listed near the shooting scene, McMillian’s was listed as 3200 Sandhill Dr.

Upon arriving at the scene Tuesday evening, officers from the department found Melvin and McMillian inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation has revealed that this was not a random incident,” said the Fayetteville police. “All parties involved were known to each other. The department’s Homicide detectives are actively investigating the case.”
