While backing into a parking garage in San Antonio, Texas, a father accidentally hit and killed his 2-year-old daughter, according to police.
On Monday at around 1 p.m., the San Antonio Police Department dispatched officers to the apartment complex where the father hit his daughter with his Chevrolet Suburban, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
The father, in his early 20s, allegedly thought his daughter was inside the apartment when he started backing his SUV into the garage, Sgt. Tom Alonzo shared.
However, the toddler had left the apartment and ran behind the vehicle while it was backing up.
The daughter was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, and she was pronounced dead less than two hours later at around 2:20 p.m. on Monday, KSAT reported.
Alonzo shared with reporters that “the family is very grief-stricken,” adding that it is “a terrible tragedy and accident.”
The San Antonio Police Department is continuing its investigation of the incident.
