Dr. Oz mocked for saying Pennsylvania is on the 'Atlantic coast'

A lot has been made during his campaign for the U.S. Senate of Dr. Mehmet Oz’s residence – specifically whether he resides in a lavish home he owns in New Jersey while running to represent Pennsylvania.

Oz, who came to fame thanks to his own televised medical advice show, did not do himself any favors during an appearance Monday on Fox News.

With the big election just eight days away, Oz appeared to demonstrate a lack of understanding of basic Pennsylvania geography.

“Pennsylvania is way is too important,” Oz told Sean Hannity, starting strongly. “And listen, this is important, we do not have a Republican senator north of North Carolina on the Atlantic coast until you get to Maine, if I don’t hold this seat.
There’s been a Republican senator in Pennsylvania most of my life. I’m gonna keep one here as well.”

The only problem with Oz’s appeal to Republican voters: Pennsylvania does not touch the Atlantic Ocean.

Commenters on social media were quick to presume that, perhaps, he confused the Keystone State with the state he is purported to call home by his opponents.

“If you want to be a senator on the east coast, you should have stayed in New Jersey, get a map please,” one tweet read.

“Maybe he’s just confused since New Jersey is on the coast and that’s the state where he actually lives,” another Twitter user said.

“Maybe Oz thinks the Delaware River is the Atlantic Ocean?” one person asked.

“Dude. It’s Joisey Shore. Not Pennsylvanian Shore,” one Tweeter quipped.

Oz will square off with Democratic candidate John Fetterman, the state’s current lieutenant governor, on November 8 in the mid-term elections.
