A mystery began Sunday when authorities found a black SUV with four homicide victims inside it in western Wisconsin. The SUV had Minnesota license plates.

On Tuesday, St. Paul police said they would be assisting the Dunn County Sheriff's Office in the investigation. Police said they were alerted on Sunday afternoon by a 911 caller who said the SUV was abandoned in a standing cornfield off a rural road in the Town of Sheridan.

Steve Linders, a spokesman for the St. Paul Police, shared with the Star Tribune that "our homicide unit investigators are providing assistance when requested." Linders did not say anything about the deaths and their connection to St. Paul.

The discovery of the four victims was announced by the sheriff's office on Monday night, more than 30 hours later. The office posted the information on Facebook, sharing that there was possibly a second dark-colored SUV traveling with the abandoned vehicle.

The sheriff's office went on to say that the victims did not appear to have any connection to the area. However, the sheriff's office did not release who the victims were or the reasoning for why they think they were murdered.

Other agencies involved in the investigation include the County Medical Examiner's Office, the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice crime lab, the sheriff's office said in their Facebook post.

At the moment, there have not been any arrests, but the Dunn County Sheriff's Office is requesting that anyone with information call 715-232-1348.
