Alarms were sounded in Tel Aviv on Sunday as the city was warned of possible incoming rockets after Hamas’ military said it had launched a new attack on the city.
The Al-Qassam Brigades announced that it was bombing the city with a missile barrage in response to what it said was “Zionist massacres against civilians,” NBC News reported
According to the Israel Defense Forces, eight projectiles were identified crossing from Rafah and into Israel’s territory. The IDF Aerial Defense Array intercepted a number of the projectiles, the IDF shared.
There have not been any reports of casualties or damage in the area as a result of the attack.
The attack comes as the fighting in Gaza continues and as aid trucks have entered Gaza through southern Israel as part of a new agreement to bypass the Rafah crossing with Egypt.
The International Court of Justice on Friday also ordered Israel to halt its military assault on Rafah, one of the last footholds that Israel says Hamas has in Gaza. However, it also has a large number of refugees who have fled to the city amidst the fighting.
A spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing claimed that it had captured Israeli soldiers during fighting in Jabalia on Saturday.
However, the IDF has said that the claim was untrue.
“There is no incident in which a soldier was abducted,” the IDF said in a statement.
