Alaskan officials have shared that the body of an hunter has been found, with initial reports showing that he was mauled to death by a bear.
The Alaska State Troopers shared in a dispatch on Wednesday that 50-year-old Tad Fujioka of Sitka, Alaska, was reported overdue from a deer hunting trip on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday morning, state wildlife troopers and the United States Coast Guard launched multiple search teams to look for the hunter, who was in a remote wooded area in the state.
By 11:30 a.m., the remains of Fujioka were found and an “investigation revealed he was the likely victim of a fatal bear mauling,” the state troopers said.
His body has been recovered and his next of kin were notified, the troopers shared.
Authorities have not shared what type of bear was involved in the attack or any other details about the investigation.
