An unidentified man's carry-on bag was found with 23 weapons inside of it after Transportation Security Administration officers searched it at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to a press release.
The press release from the TSA said that on Wednesday May 4, among the weapons recovered at the security checkpoint in Arlington were a dagger, a switchblade, a pair of brass knuckles, eleven knives, and nine disposable scalpels.
The carry-on bag was being scanned in an X-ray machine at the checkpoint when officers found the weapons, the press release says.
Following the weapons being found, the man was issued a citation from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police.
In a checked bag, the weapons would have been fine, but they can't be brought on a flight in carry-on bags, the release said.
The agency may impose a fine of up to $13,910 per violation per person for bringing prohibited items through security, its website said.
If someone wanted to bring firearms on a flight, they would have to make sure it is allowed and follow instructions from the TSA on how to pack them. However, the final say "rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint."
