The Faith Lutheran Church of Monticello, Minn., will be building a new playground, and it’s all thanks to the generosity of a local 5-year-old boy and his green thumb.

Emmett Cox is a boy with a calling: He grows his own pumpkins on his family’s farm and sells them, then donates all the proceeds to a charity of his choosing.

“I’m just blown away,” Emmett’s mom, Anna Cox, told WCCO, the television station whose news story on Emmett provided his pumpkin patch with a sizable influx of business.

To be clear, after his story ran on TV, donations poured in, swelling the coffers of his burgeoning pumpkin empire from around $100 to $532.

The full sum was donated to his church.

“Thank you,” Emmett told WCCO. “I wish I could give you a hug.”

“I’m touched he was able to impact people and make them want to be a better person too,” Anna Cox said. “I’m really proud of him. We all are,” his mom said.
