Two parents in their 20s were arrested and charged with murder in relation to the death of their 4-week-old baby, who was determined to have died from alcohol poisoning, authorities reported on Tuesday.

Sydnei Dunn, 24, and Marquis Colvin, 25, were arrested in suburban Atlanta on Thursday, the same day their child died, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

On April 13, the child was brought to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta by Colvin and Dunn, who reported that their baby was unresponsive. The couple was asked what happened, and when their details "did not make sense," the authorities were called by staff at the hospital.

Doctors found the infant had an amount of alcohol in its system that was more than four times the legal limit for an adult, the sheriff's department shared in a statement.

The press release said that Dunn said she had consumed a large amount of alcohol the day before, so she thought the child had alcohol poisoning from breastfeeding.

However, she later changed her story, indicating the father had put alcohol in the baby's bottle, the statement said.

Both have now been charged in the death of their child. Dunn faces felony charges of malice murder and second-degree murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and reckless conduct.

Colvin has been charged with the same charges and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and parole violation.

As of now, both the parents are being held in Paulding County Jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing and the sheriff’s department shared more charges may be coming.
