While President Joe Biden has made the decision to seek a second term in office, not everyone seems as supportive this time as they were in 2020.

A new poll from The Associated Press found that among Black voters, support for the president has begun to nosedive.

The poll notes that just 41% of Black adults in the U.S. thought the president should seek a second term in office, while only 55% said they would likely support him in the general election. Compared to Democrats overall, 81% said they would either “definitely” or “probably” vote for him if he were the nominee, even though only half want him to run in 2024.

The results are a steep drop off for the president from when he first entered office. The poll highlighted this, finding that among Black voters, only 58% approved of the job he is doing in office, compared to 9 out of 10 Black voters who approved of his job handling two months into his term.

Another poll from Reuters/Ipsos found that overall the president’s approval rating isn’t the best, with only 40% of respondents saying they approve of the job he’s done in office, up from 39% last month.

When it comes to the specifics of his job, Americans showed in a Gallup Poll that they don’t feel the president has handled the economy well, with inflation gripping the nation for over a year.

The Gallup poll found that only 35% of respondents had a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in Biden’s ability to recommend the right thing for the economy.

Gallup noted that during the Great Recession, former President George W. Bush had a similar confidence score of just 34%.

Still, a blaring concern voters have with the president and his decision to seek a second term is his age.

In a Washington Post-ABC News poll released last week, only 32% of respondents felt that Biden had the “mental sharpness” to do his job effectively, while a third felt he was “in good enough physical health” for the job.
