Secret Service member robbed during Biden’s trip to California

A US Secret Service member was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday night in California while President Joe Biden ventured to the state for a Hollywood fundraiser.

The Secret Service member was returning from a work assignment in Tustin, California when the incident occurred, USSS spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

Guglielmi said that during the robbery, the Secret Service member “discharged their service weapon,” but it was not known if the suspect was hit.

“We are thankful that the employee did not sustain any injuries,” Guglielmi said.

The Tustin Police Department responded to the scene of the attack, which happened at 9:36 p.m. near a residential community. The suspect did make off with the Secret Service member’s bag, and police are still looking for their silver Infiniti FX35 or a similar-looking vehicle, police shared.

Prior to the incident, President Biden had returned to his hotel after his fundraiser that featured several big names, including former President Barack Obama, Jason Bateman, George Clooney, Jimmy Kimmel, Jack Black, and more.

Police are still searching for the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing at this point.
